Does anyone know if you can use Vanilla Extract in place of flavor oil for lip balm? I'm curious and would like to know if anyone has tried it. Would be nice to be able to pick up at the local grocery store

Thanks in advance for any imput!

You can use the flavorings that people use for candy. I've gotten them at the party stores and places like Michaels

Extracts are alcohol-based and won't mix with your oils. The candy flavor oils, like Lorann, are hit-and-miss with taste, but they'll mix into your oils just fine. Just to be on the safe side, I prefer to use oils made to be used in lip balm, that way I won't have to wonder about skin irritation, etc.

Ok......thank you both Julia and Celene! Guess I'll stick with the flavor oils made for lip balms. Have either of you used any from Sweetcakes? I've never bought from them and was wondering how they were.

Hi Lisa,

I'm not Julia and Celene but I've used Sweetcakes lip balm flavorings, Plum Crazy is very yummy! Calypso kiss isn't too bad either.

I like Ginger Peach from Sweetcakes, and I think they're the ones who have Pearberry, which sells like hotcakes. Their coconut tastes like jet fuel, tho.

Thanks for the head's up Magic! Do you have to add sweetner to them? What they say on the page of the lip flavors sounds like a PITA. I would love to give them a try but the added sweetner thing is holding me back! Do you find you have to add it to the flavor oils?

TIA!
Lisa :D
